Enjoy this easy stroll for younger visitors with a visit to Coney Beach seaside pleasure park
Trecco Bay holiday park to Porthcawl Marina
2 miles or 3 km
With golden beaches, funfairs and traditional seaside amusements, this easy stroll is perfect for younger visitors.
Starting from Trecco Bay Holiday Park, follow the Wales Coast Path west past Trecco Bay and Sandy Bay. Separated by a small, rocky headland and sandy beaches are the ideal stop-off point for a little paddling or sandcastle building before you continue on your way.
Next, it’s on to Coney Beach, a seafront pleasure park where rides, rollercoasters, stalls, games and arcades are the order of the day. Once the kids have spent all their pocket money, continue along the Eastern Promenade to the newly refurbished Porthcawl Marina. The harbour was once a bustling coal port, but it’s now a lovely spot to stop for an ice cream while you watch pleasure boats and fishing boats bobbing in the water.
The marina’s industrial days may be behind it, but it’s still home to some fascinating pieces of maritime history. Built in 1832, the Grade-II listed Jennings building is the UK’s oldest maritime warehouse and now houses restaurants and cafés, while the lighthouse here, now battery powered, was the last in the country to be powered by coal and gas.
Once you’ve seen everything, retrace your step along the Wales Coast Path back to your starting point.
Tricia Cottnam, Wales Coast Path Officer highlights:
"This walk is a popular walk with holiday makers and families. Both Trecco Bay and Coney Beach are easily accessible and provide an off path experience for those wishing to have a proper seaside experience. However the lighthouse and restored marina area is well worth a visit".
There are cafés and public toilets as well as parking at both Trecco Bay and Coney Beach.
