Wales Coast Path (WCP) is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy.

This Policy explains when and why we collect personal information about people who visit our website or use our services, how we use it, the conditions under which we may disclose it to others and how we keep it secure.

About us

The Wales Coast Path is a 870 mile / 1,400 km footpath that follows the entire Welsh coastline. 

The path is managed by Natural Resources Wales and the Wales Coast Path team work in close partnership with sixteen local coastal authorities as well as two national parks on path maintenance and development. There are dedicated regional path officers who maintain the path who employed by various public organisations. The funding for the path maintenance, development and marketing comes from Welsh Government. Key partners include Visit Wales and other key stakeholders to market and promote the path to local, national and international audiences.

Data controller

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is the Data Controller and is committed to protecting the rights of individuals in line with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Natural Resources Wales has a Data Protection Officer who can be contacted by email on dataprotection@cyfoethnaturiolcymru.gov.uk  0300 065 3000.

What information do we collect about you?

WCP activities include regular path updates and news through our internal email list,  e-newsletter using Granicus platform( Privacy policy | Granicus UK).

WCP uses the following social media platforms to promote the path: Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. 

Any in person events and bookings will be through Jotform (Jotform Privacy Policy) or an internal email booking system. 

Official merchandise is available to buy from the Wales Coast Path shop https://www.walescoastpathshop.co.uk which is hosted by a third party. 

WCP website 

The WCP website is hosted by a third party (Umbraco). All web content and enquiries made through the website are managed by WCP.

Cookies

The WCP website uses cookies to collect anonymous information about visitor numbers and the sections of the website visited. Cookies are small bits of information that are stored on your computer by websites. These are typically used by websites to remember preferences, or to track your viewing history to target advertising more effectively.

The anonymous information is collated and reported using Google Analytics to help us with managing the website. This prevents us from seeing any individual records: we can only see summary and trend information.

Google analytics

When someone visits https://www.walescoastpath.gov.uk we use a third-party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website.

Our site contain links to and from the websites of our partners and members. If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that these websites and any services that may be accessible through them have their own privacy policies and that we do not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies or for any personal data that may be collected through these websites or services. Please check these policies before you submit any personal data to these websites or use these services

Data is processed in-house and is not used to make automated decisions.

What is our legal basis for processing your personal data?

Processing is necessary to allow NRW to perform a task in the public interest.

Who receives your information?

WCP staff are the main data processors for the purposes of carrying our duties aligned to the general purposes of WCP. You can contact WCP at wcp@cyfoethnaturiolcymru.gov.uk  0300 065 3000, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

We also use third party processors and as such may share your information with them. The processing of this information will be in line with the third parties’ privacy policy. The third-party processors we use are as follows:

  • Umbraco web services who host the WCP website
  • Granicus for the administration of our newsletter services
  • Google analytics to assist us in the improvement and optimisation of the WCP web site.

How long will your information be held?

We will hold your data between 6 to 12 months. For complicated queries, this will be no longer than is necessary for the purposes of discharging WCP activities. For newsletter registration, your data will remain in the system until you ask to be unsubscribed.

What are your individual rights?

You have a right to access your personal information, to object to the processing of your personal information, to rectify, to erase, to restrict and to port your personal information.

Security of your information

All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers.Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our site; any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.

How to make a complaint

If you are unhappy with the way in which your personal data has been processed, you may in the first instance contact NRW’s Data Protection Officer using the contact details above. If you remain dissatisfied, then you have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision.
