Public Transport in Wales
Use our bus and train network to walk the Wales Coast Path
Public transport opens up the Coast Path in surprising ways. Not only is it a trouble-free way to travel to Wales if you are on your holidays, but it is also a great way to get onto the path - and you can leave the car at home! With 870 miles to explore, you can use public transport to hop along the coast allowing you to just walk favourite sections (while also giving your feet a bit of a rest).
There are even walks that are linked up with public transport so you don’t have to walk back to your start point. (As some areas offer limited services a day, we suggest that public transport is used for the outward leg of your journey so that you can relax and enjoy the journey rather than have to think about reaching your destination by a specific time.)
Has a useful route planner service. This will take you from your doorstop to the Path in a matter of seconds! Just say where you are and where you want to go to and it will work out a suitable route using public transport. It will also keep your informed about any delays and you can print out timetables. See Traveline Cymru website for more details.
An excellent trip adviser. Find out how to get to Wales from the rest of the UK or from overseas whether by train, coach, air or sea. There is also a great guide for getting around Wales once you’ve arrived including travel pass information. Information covers both public transport and car. See Visit Wales website for more details. (This site also features a Traveline Cymru journey planner.)

We always recommend that you check your public transport options on the day of travel.
Taking your dog with you on your walk? If you are planning on using public transport to walk the Wales Coast Path, please check with the transport provider beforehand to check whether dogs are allowed on board before you travel.
Walk 100 miles between Pwllheli and Aberystwyth using the train
Accessing the Wales Coast Path by bus is, in many places, surprisingly easy. This gives many options for walking one way and catching a bus the other.
